Annotation

Description
SufE is one of the components of the suf operon. The proteins in this operon are implicated in Fe-S cluster assembly under iron limitation and oxidative stress conditions. SufE protein has been shown to bind tightly to SufS in E.coli, the other protein in suf operon, and significantly stimulate its cysteine desulfurase activity. SufS catalyzes the conversion of L-cysteine to L-alanine and sulfide through the intermediate formation of a protein-bound cysteine persulfide in the active site. (Synonyms NifS,CsdB,SufS) (E.C. 2.8.1.7)
